Honda S2000 Maintenance Schedule: Every Service Interval
The S2000 rewards attentive maintenance. These are the service intervals that keep the engine, drivetrain, and chassis in top condition.
Every Oil Change (~5,000–7,500 miles)
- Engine oil and filter change
- Check all fluid levels
- Inspect for leaks
- Check tire pressure and condition
Recommended oil: 5W-30 or 10W-30 full synthetic, API SN or better
Oil capacity: 4.5 quarts with filter (F20C/F22C)
15,000 Miles / Annual Minimum
- Air filter inspection (replace if dirty)
- Cabin air filter inspection
- Tire rotation
- Brake inspection (pads, rotors, caliper slides)
- Inspect CV axle boots for tears
30,000 Miles
- Valve clearance inspection — critical on the S2000; the high-revving F20C/F22C needs proper valve clearance
- Intake: 0.20–0.25mm (F20C); 0.17–0.23mm (F22C)
- Exhaust: 0.28–0.32mm (F20C); 0.25–0.31mm (F22C)
- Spark plugs — replace with NGK plugs (OEM spec or equivalent iridium)
- Differential fluid change (Honda Dual Pump Fluid II or equivalent LSD fluid)
- Transmission fluid change (Honda MTF)
- Brake fluid flush (DOT 3 or DOT 4)
- Coolant flush and refill (Honda Type 2 Coolant or equivalent blue HOAT)
- Inspect timing chain tensioner
- Check power steering fluid level
60,000 Miles
- All 30,000 mile items
- Timing chain tensioner replacement (strongly recommended; see tensioner article)
- Drive belt inspection and replacement if cracked/frayed
- Inspect control arm bushings
- Inspect exhaust system for cracks and leaks
- Inspect soft top seals and lubricate top frame pivots
90,000 Miles
- All 30,000 and 60,000 mile items
- Full suspension bushing inspection; replace worn items
- Inspect and possibly replace CV axles if boots have been cracked
- Full cooling system inspection (hoses, clamps, water pump)
120,000 Miles and Beyond
- Water pump replacement (proactive)
- Thermostat replacement
- Full brake caliper rebuild or replacement
- Inspect differential for leaks and unusual wear

The S2000 Owner's Mindset
The F20C and F22C are designed to rev. They live at 6,000–9,000 rpm regularly. This is normal and desirable — but it means maintenance cannot be deferred. An S2000 that gets oil changes every 10,000 miles and no differential fluid changes is headed for problems.
Treat the maintenance schedule as the minimum, not a target to stretch. The payoff is an engine that can realistically reach 200,000+ miles.
